The arm that attaches from the garage door opener to my garage door has ripped away from the top panel. The top panel seems very flimsy and I believe that it is an un-insulated garage door. Can this repair be made easily, or should I look into buying a new garage door?
The un-insulated garage doors are very weak, especially the double doors, the standard size is 16’ x 7’. This is one of the most common problems related to these doors. It is possible to make a repair if the top panel has not completely ripped apart, most of the time the top panel can be reinforced with punch angle steel to save you the cost of buying a new garage door. Keep in mind that a good quality insulated garage door by Wayne Dalton will not only be much stronger but it will also help keep your entire house warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. The bottom line is that this repair is not easy. It should be done by a garage door technician.
